Monday

I've been doing a lot of "loose end tying" for the past few days. Packaging and shipping stuff, cleaning the studio, paperwork, basically all the stuff that I have been neglecting. I'm planning some big canvases for the winter so I really need to get all the business stuff taken care of. This is one of the paintings that is shipping out this week. It's going to London!
I'd like to thank all of you that have been commenting and sending me emails lately. I cherish all the words of encouragement!

  1. GORGEOUS! I love your peonies. Fantastic composition. Hot do you get that bright hot pink (the petals showing between the flowers)? I have been looking for a colour and experimenting with mixing roses, yellows and cad orange - can't get it! (unless it's like a secret recipe...then I understand ; )

  2. Thanks Kim! I usually mix most of my colors, but you are right, that's a tough color. I paint a lot of peonies in this color so I have been collecting a variety of colors. The ones I most often use are Magenta, Thalo Red Rose, Thio Violet, Pemanent Violet. They are water-mixable oils of all brands. I don't use any of these colors straitght from the tube. I usuall mix them with reds. The petals in between the flowers are a mix of W&N Artiisan Magenta, Grumbacher Max Thalo Red Rose and Alizarin Crimson. (All very saturated colors) The second you add any opaque color or white it the vibrancy of the flower is gone. So NO secrets here, I hope this helps and I'm happy you asked! By the way, I'm loving your blog and visit every day!

  3. Thanks Neiley! I'm going to have to buy some magenta. I've never used water-mixable oils. Have you used them long? Do you like them? I just loooove your peonies and trees.

  4. I have been using the water-mixable oils for maybe 7 years now.? I love them! They are so much easier to clean up after and I think the colors are mostly the same. As the years go by there are more and more brands available too. I loved how your show looked and the posters were really cool too! If ever you would like to barter, let me know!! I'll own a Rempel someday soon anyway :)

  7. Thank you Nicki and welcome!
Kim, oooh trading! Blurb is sooo easy and fun. I downloaded the blurb book making program that they offer and which was nice to be able to work on it in my spare time. I want to make ten more books now. Your paintings are going to look awesome in this format. I'll put my order in for one now, okay?
